Newsletter for Week of October 8

Hello everyone,

The lock-in went well! We played, ordered pizza, watched a movie and made muffins — all in one evening! The lock-in was held at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Wayland. The vestry from the church will be visiting campus TODAY (October 9) so if you want to have dinner with us, meet us in the dining hall at 5:30 p.m. The student vestry of FSC Protestants and the parish vestry from Church of the Holy Spirit will have a joint meeting. This is part of our on-going quest to discover what church is by being the church! Church vestry meetings are where the church leaders meet to make decisions. Most of the FSC club boards operate in the same way. Church boards are not that different, except they make decisions to help facilitate the life of the community along the lines of their faith, as well as coordinate efforts to fulfill their mission goals (which is usually plans to help in various community and global poverty initiatives.) So check back on this site to see how the meeting goes! The meeting starts with FSC students taking CHS vestry members to dinner in the dining hall! So, if you see people who look like parents, it’s not parents’ weekend, the CHS vestry is in town!

Office Hours for this week
I will be in the office 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday. I am also available early afternoon on Friday — if you want to make an appointment to meet with me for Friday, please call or email.

This Week’s Service

We have a guest speaker! The Rev. Julie Carson, rector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church will be speaking. She has been warned, that our tradition is that students may ask questions DURING the sermon, but since she is a guest, try to go easy on her, leave the apocalyptic questions to another week. Fellowship time after the service — stay and meet Julie, whose church is walking distance from the school on Maple Street and whose parishioners provide the dinner for the NT Challenge!

Readings for Oct 10

Habakkuk 1:1-6(7-11)12-13;2:1-4
2 Timothy 1:(1-5)6-14
Luke 17:5-10
Psalm 37:1-18 or 37:3-10

Take the NT Challenge!

Come join us for the second meeting of the NT Challenge! We are moving into Matthew as part of our challenge to read the entire New Testament together over a period of nine months. It’s not too late to join! If you’re interested, ask for a check list and come to the next meeting which is October 14 at 4 p.m. in Club Room Three on the Fifth floor of the College Center.

We had a great time at the first meeting! We learned a song that helped us memorize all the books in the New Testament and this song helped everyone find things in the Bible. So, we’ll start with a song, prayer and brief worship, then we’ll be review how the challenge has been for us all! Dinner was provided for by St Andrew’s Episcopal Church. RSVP by Oct 10 so we can get a count for dinner.

HEALING SERVICE

The Oct 17 service will be a healing service. This is a sacred and meaningful event and if you would like to help, please let me know. What I mean by healing is that we do ask for physical, mental and spiritual healing and for ourselves and others and trust God for whatever comes. Its a kind of prayer service, and just want to clarify two things, healing may happen, healing might not happen, or healing might start to happen at these meeting.
